I am Shirley Lydia Veronica Williams, a 24-year-old from the Western part of Sierra Leone, West Africa. Currently a Year 1 Medical student with an undergraduate Bachelor of Science
Degree with honours in Biological Science from the Fourah Bay College University of Sierra Leone (USL). While in college, I was part of the Student Union Government (SUG), serving as the Minister of Health and Sanitation in the 2019/2020 academic year. After university, I
worked for the German International Cooperation (GIZ) in my country; prior to that, I volunteered for several women advocacy organisations, MARWOPNET and Africa-WISE being a part, I got to work with diverse, strong women in empowering young girls and making sure our voices were heard. I am an active member of the Women's Forum Sierra Leone, where I serve as the PRO for the Western Urban Area.
The long-term goal is to head the World Health Organisation one day and later run for the Presidential Office in Sierra Leone. I aspire to be a world leader in combatting developmental issues, especially quality healthcare for women and children. achievements; the story behind it is astounding. Also, an appointment to serve the student body as the Minister of Health and Sanitation is another achievement, I am proud of to this day.
